He sat there for what seemed an age. His tears soaked through the bandages and stung his wounds. When he had no more energy left he simply sat, head in hands, for what felt like eternity. He heard noised outside his cell. People walking up and down the corridor, the jangling of keys. He heard a loud thunk which made him look up. Through a narrow slit in metal door in front of him he saw a set of eyes regarding him for a moment. Then another thunk as the slot was closed again. The sound of footsteps walking away and muffled voices. The there was nothing but silence. He shifted his position again and looked at the palm of his hands. This was the first time he’d done so properly since he woken up.
